Concert Series #12: Mike Evin, Kyra & Tully, Darling DeMaes
| October 26, 2007 | 8:00 pm | to | 11:00 pm | ||

“Mike Evin is a rarity - a pop composer who isn’t afraid to use his wit or to wear his heart for all to hear.”  – CBC RADIO (Montreal)

Kyra and Tully have been a long time coming. Like a beacon of love guiding us through a troubled world, Kyra and Tully’s music is set to inspire the next generation of bright-eyed lovers. Their music provides a lifeline to the tradition of the duo superstars of the 60s and 70s. Sprouting new melodies in the trail blazed by those real-life couple predecessors, Kyra and Tully are not themselves new to the world of music. Fixtures on the Kingston music scene, they have been doing their thing locally on their own terms, regularly jamming and performing with some of Kingston’s best-known homegrown talent.

Those who have seen Montreal’s the Darling DeMaes live have tried to pin them to an eclectic range of acts, revealing not so much their likeness, but difference. Some hear shades of Belle & Sebastian, others Pavement, the Shins, the Pixies, Radiohead or even ‘60s echoes of the Beatles, the Ronettes, and Paul Simon. The Darling DeMaes have a sound that’s precise, unique and evocative of their collective creative minds filled with irony, naivety, and bittersweet nostalgia… and an incomparable sensibility for delicate and complex melodies.
