Tone Deaf, Modern Fuel’s annual “festival of adventurous music and sound performance” is happening soon (October 9-15), and one of the concerts is happening at The Artel!

Here’s the scoop:

Tom Sherman, intermedia artist and writer, has performed and exhibited internationally, including representing Canada at the Venice Biennale. Tonight Sherman performs a series of texts from his H5N1 series, a suite of two minute exercises in hyper-paranoia, with sound and video. With subtle and riveting new cabaret pop from her critically acclaimed recording Les Dangereuses, recent Kingston import Lenni Jabour brings us an intimate solo performance. The Globe & Mail calls her “pure fabulousness.”

The ARTEL Concert Series is coming! Listen to some amazing music in our intimate little venue. Here are the details on the three concerts in the series:

Nathan Lawr, Saturday October 21st 8pm
The singer/songwriter and drummer for countless Toronto indie bands,
including Royal City, The Constaintines and The Fembots, will be
enticing the Artel audience with his lovely, distinctive singing
voice, clever lyrics, charming stage presence and complex guitar
playing.

Julie Doiron, Friday November 10th 8pm
Juno Award Winner and member of infamous east coast indie band, Eric’s
Trip, Julie’s delicately powerful music has won over several Kingston
audiences, including last year’s concert at the Grad Club in June
2006. Doiron’s songs hold an intensity and vibrancy that will surely
woo the Artel.

Sandro Perri, Friday December 1st 8pm
Often described as a “minimalist musician”, Perri is best known for
his work with Toronto band, Polmo Polpo. The Artel will experience a
warmer, organic sound, in comparison, with Perri’s latest trio project, singing songs with drums and euphonium.
