Juno Award Winner and member of infamous east coast indie band, Eric’s Trip, Julie’s delicately powerful music has won over several Kingston audiences, including last year’s concert at the Grad Club in June 2006. Doiron’s songs hold an intensity and vibrancy that will surely woo the Artel.

Upcoming exhibit at the Artel: ??PLAY?? (Maggie Hogan)

November 29th, 2006

A new exhibit will be opening at the Artel this Thursday: ??Play?? — a collection of works by Kingston artist Maggie Hogan.  The opening reception will be held on Saturday night at 7pm — everyone is welcome to attend, and there will be refreshments.

From the press release:

The Artel will be presenting new works by Kingston artist Maggie Hogan that will focus on ideas and objects associated with play (for all ages). By using a variety of materials, Hogan attempts to look at play concepts and materials through a new lens.

Hogan’s three dimensional work attempts to place used and discarded materials and forms in a new context in an effort to focus on their underappreciated qualities and create new life for them. By rethinking and updating ordinarily play things, Hogan attempts draw our attention to the small and often overlooked material of our everyday lives. By actually incorporating these familiar non-art materials into her presentation, she hopes to evoke a multitude of associations for the viewer.

Calling all artists — Lighthouse Wire Magazine is sending out a call for submissions, and everyone is invited to submit!  Here’s a message from Talie Shalmon:

I’m on the editorial board for Lighthouse Wire Magazine, a Queen’s publication that features the visual arts. It’s a pretty sweet magazine and we’re now accepting submissions! You’re invited to submit your drawings, paintings, photography, photos of sculptures/installations, video stills, experimental writing, etc. Pretty much anything lovely you made. It’s not limited to Queen’s students so if you know anyone who might like to submit you’re welcome to forward this email. It’s a great opportunity to have your work seen! Just send a good quality digital image to lighthousewire@gmail.com by Dec.8th. It’s that easy, baby!
