Here’s the full information: Confessions ….. October 23- December 23, 2006 Confessions is a sound installation by artist Lisa Visser that explores how art, as part of the everyday, blurs the boundaries between the sacred and the profane. By subtly infiltrating the aural environment of the street with the secrets of strangers Visser reveals the personal utterances of everyday lives that shape identity. It that developed out of the artist’s personal struggle to find a sense of self – to locate herself within a place and space where everyday encounters create meaning. By layering personal confessions from her personal archive with anonymous contributions Visser creates a soundscape that makes private lives, public. Lisa Visser is a new artist to the Kingston art community. She is a recent graduate of the Fine Arts program at Queen’s University and is a former member of the Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre Board of Directors as well as one of the founding members of the Artel, an artist residence and multi-use arts venue in downtown Kingston. She has exhibited in exhibitions at the Union Gallery, the Modern Fuel and the Artel and most recently in an outdoor public art project of the Union Gallery entitled Out of Site, art negotiating neglected spaces in March 2006. Curated by Jocelyn Purdie and located in the front porch at 448 Bagot St., the Swamp Ward Window is a venue for contemporary art initiatives in an unconventional site in Kingston’s north end. It takes advantage of pedestrian curiosity and the intimacy of a dense urban setting. Confessions operates daily at: 8-10am The artist asks passersby to participate in Confessions by: Slipping your secret in the mail slot at 448 Bagot St. OR sending secrets to: PO BOX 2046 Or online at: Holiday Caroling with the Artel Singers and the Backyard Sex BandDecember 13th, 2006This Friday night, come downtown to listen to some unconventional December 15 2006, Friday Evening
