Reception: Saturday March 8th at 7pm

In 1966, the American recording artist Bob Dylan died in a motorcycle accident. His audience, however, refused to let him go. By wishing really hard, and by clapping their hands together, boys and girls of all ages were able to give life again to Dylan gone to ashes, like the Golem.
Forty years later, the Artel presents the exhibition “Jewels and Binoculars.” Bob’s children have grown in size and number, and now that the applause is so great, Dylan can die again and live eternally. Some of these children have produced the various artworks exhibited in “Jewels and Binoculars,” in memory of Bob. Bob is dead. Long live Bob.
“Jewels and Binoculars” is organized by Michael Davidge, who is currently the Artistic Director at Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre. He is also a resident and collective member of the Artel, an artist residence and multi-use arts venue in downtown Kingston.
Participating artists include: Michael Davidge, Isaac Gillis, Wendy Huot, Jeremy Mulder, Aly Ogasian, Chantal Rousseau (Toronto, ON), Lisa Visser, Lucie Claire Whitehead (Victoria, BC), Daniel Wong (Lethbridge, AB). With special appearances by, amongst others, Daniel Saunders.
OPEN HOURS Saturday - Sunday 11am - 4pm or weekdays by appointment (call 613 542-0969 or email the.artel@gmail.com to arrange a visit).
This exhibition is part of Welcome HERE, a project focused on promoting a series of multidisciplinary art presentation and participation opportunities rooted in creative sharing and collaboration, and distinguished by communion with the Kingston community. Watch for announcements of exhibitions and events coming soon, including a public pasta dinner. This 9-month project is made possible with the support of The City of Kingston Arts Fund and the Kingston Arts Council.

Workscited presents YELLOW.

AN EXPERIMENT IN STORYTELLING: FREE OF CHARGE, FULL OF SHINE…
You can fill your pockets to the brim with shine and still have some left for your shoes. The slobbery glint won’t be thick enough, though, to mask the colour underneath: the inimitable hue that plagues us to our very cores, aches to be seen by all…YELLOW.
dare i say… there will be puppets!

H-cubed
an exhibit of Heart, Hearth and Home
by Rebecca and Raphaela
Feb. 23 @ 7pm, dance party 8 - 11pm.
H-cubed is a new element. It’s a building block for House Galleries. The concept of ‘home’ and ‘gallery’ are challenged here and the viewer is put in a more honest position of accepting or not accepting the gallery as also the home to six artists. The exhibit does this by incorporating heart, hearth and home into the process of the exhibit rather than trying to disguise them.
This exhibit illustrates the huge range of definitions from various sources, of what a ‘home’ is as well as what a ‘gallery’ is. Viewers are encouraged to add words of association to the two, large lists under the words “home” and “gallery”. The word “gallery” for instance can mean a long room or a piece of metal. “Home” can mean the greatest physical medium in the history of modern spiritualism’ or ‘a place to keep your vehicle’.
People attending this one-day event will be encouraged to bring in their ‘home’ work — e.g. clothes that need mending, things that need sorting….There will be a sewing station, a button station and a sorting station for various tasks.
Following the ‘home’ session is a dance party. Add words to the lists and help celebrate heart, hearth and home. This exhibit is meant to empower the home as gallery and ask people to reflect on their perspectives and expectations of both.
