If you’re even hesitating for two seconds about this show,
a) you weren’t there when Pop Winds destroyed the Artel in April
b) you haven’t heard Grimes’ amazing record Geidi Primes
c) you are unaware that you might miss a very special performance by Kingston’s own William Blakely
…
Total guarantee that this will be the best Wednesday night of August 2010.

Grown-Ups (Calgary) are touring on the release of their rad new 7″ (seriously, check it out below!) Not Friends. This is a cheap, short, all ages show, and the best possible way to spend your Saturday evening in Kingston. BEST. POSSIBLE. WAY.
Weird Canada sez:
From The Cramps (radical) to Mates of State (barf) to the Plastic Ono Band (radical barfing), musical married couples are nothing new. However, what sets thee Grown-Ups’ Sara and Josiah Hughes apart is that they’re cuter than a pair of bulldogs on snowboards that know how to turn up the rock and turn down the suck. Joined by third member/producer Darrell on “dad guitar” (nice Conchords reference, guys), they’ve now teamed with the almighty Bart for tape release number two. Eight songs of angry punk sludge that sound just as pitted as their debut but now with more Crazy Horse guitar solos (see: opener “Meat”) and Art Brut-esque motivational meta-songs (see: “Start A Band!”). This is the soundtrack for the skateboarding video game you invented in your brain. The musical equivalent of a cherry-coke slurpee with a stolen chocolate bar tucked in the cup. The creepy-lovable cover photo rules too, but I really just wish it was a drawing of Odie crossed with Jughead.

Warming up the room will be False Face. From Kingston. Right. Those guys.

Doors at 8ish. Bands at 9. Blown minds at 9:15.

Failure is something that we can all identify with, whether it be the failure of a personal venture, love affair or artistic endeavor. !!! CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS !!!1: PHOTOS
Do you have photographs that by any standards are just plain bad? Photographs that accumulate in a desktop photo folder, never to be disposed of but also rarely seen?
Contribute to the show!
We are putting together a slide show of unfortunate images to be featured at the exhibit opening and are looking for community members to share their poorly composed photographs with us.
Please send your bad photos to bad.days2010@gmail.com
2: MOVIE CLIPS
Help us build a movie scrapheap! Cameo cinema is hosting a special screening of stuff that is bad in an awesome way, and we need your awesomely bad expertise.
We’d be especially interested in:
* favorite clips from favorite ill-conceived/trashy movies
* dreadful scenes from otherwise excellent movies
* Old public access nonsense/TV ephemera
* Your own regrettable film-making efforts (home movies, student film, “art” project, etc.)
Together we will make a video collage that promises to reflect poorly on us all.
Send your ideas/submissions to: bad.days2010@gmail.com

Come out to The Artel for July’s edition of Poetry Night hosted by Bruce Kauffman.
For more info on the upcoming event read Bruce’s description below:
This poetry series’ ambition - held in an inviting, warm, accepting and acoustically sound “safe” space - is to offer a compassionate setting for poets to come and share their work - and for others to relax, support and absorb. As I have mentioned before, the spoken word does indeed add another dimension to the written word that is, at times, almost magical.
Those participating may be reading from their own work or other’s work, singing (with or even without an instrument), reading work done on a poet/poetic era or perhaps even original prose - and hey who knows. The only real restriction is time limit, determined by the number of people signing to read - but in the past each reader has had roughly 8 to 10 minutes, give or take.
This month’s reading, scheduled for Tuesday, July 6th at the Artel (corner of Queen and Sydenham Sts.), will run from 7:00 to 10:00pm, with a short intermission part way through and with limited food and beverage provided. It is also a free event, but donations are greatly appreciated and will be given directly to the Artel for providing their space and their assistance.
This is an open event so feel free to invite or bring friends as well. Each reading has had a number of people come to support someone they know who is reading, or simply to come to listen and watch - and enjoy.
Although the start time is 7pm, this is not a closed door event and anyone is welcome to come in at any time during the reading, either to read or to listen. I will attempt to accomodate poets arriving late wishing to read. If you are intending to read and know in advance that you will be late - let me know and I will make sure your name is included on the list for later in the evening
SIDE NOTE:
I would also like this reading series to be a resource in promoting other artistic endeavors. If you have or know of a project, exhibit, space or anything else related to the artistic community - it would be wonderful if you could come promote it. But if you’re not able to attend - contact me either here on fb or by way of email and I will promote it on your behalf at the reading myself My email address is: bruce.kauffman@hotmail.com
This is going to be another wonderful evening
Hope to see you there!
