On Tuesday the 31st of August, 9pm sharp, come to the Artel at 209 Sydenham st to listen to your friends and fellow Kingstonians tell their best tales and anecdotes about bars, taverns and clubs. Come to tell a story or to listen. Be as creative as you’d like.

Mouthy is a new, monthly, storytelling series in Kingston, Ontario. Each event will have a different theme and anyone interested will be able to tell a story, factual or fictional, of their own or someone else’s, at these events. It’ll be done open mic style.

We are trying to create a forum where the wonderful art of engaging storytelling can be practiced and shared. Please attend and share in the experience!

Reading of 5 1/2 : Montreal Suite, a new play by Lara Szabo Greisman

Come all to the Artel and listen to this live radio drama-esque play reading. An 18A, pseudo-political, tragic-comical story about alienation and other general Canadian fuckery. The play features local talents and heart breakers from the community who will be sure to have you laughing, gasping in shock and maybe getting that sexy feeling.

Hankeren is now ready to host some dildo making workshops! The design workshops are not completly DIY as we will take over the silicone pigmenting and pouring. Design workshops are suitable for people who aren’t used to DIYing.

In this workshop participants will sketch and sculpt their own dildo design and paint on the mold material. Afterwards Hankeren will take the molds (with requested colour) and have the dildo ready for pick-up within the week.

Ismism is an ambient-experimental rock group based in Montreal. The brainchild of Mathew Daher, the compositions are the product of his experimentations with the synthesis of found sounds, samples, and acoustic instruments both traditional and obscure. The group has been active since 2008, when Daher recruited a diverse group of musicians to perform and invigorate his compositions. While maintaining the aesthet…ic of his original recordings, Ismism has transformed them into semi-improvisatory performance pieces that traverse territory from whispery and ambient soundscapes to grimy and chaotic breakdowns—carrying the listener through an equally expansive emotional landscape.

Ismism released its eponymous EP in February 2010. Self-produced and self-released, the EP’s five tracks are propelled by driving, often irregular rhythms in the tightly woven bass and drums, as lyrical melodies and layered patterns float above in the vibraphone, synthesizer, and guitar. Blissful sojourns into radiant textures unite the ethereal with the tangible elements of the EP’s sound.
