November’s reading will be the nineteenth in this reading series - sincere thanks to all who have attended in the past, as poets sharing and as guests coming to support those reading or to simply relax and absorb It is all of you who make this event the wonderful one that it is:) Thank you
For several months now, the readings have been recorded for playback on “finding a voice” playing on CFRC radio 101.9FM fridays at 4pm. The newest feature to this event is the display table with the “revolving library” and “words for free/barter/sale”. It is designed for poets to bring in their own work (books, chapbooks, zines, cds) for either sale or barter (or possibly free) - and as well, a spot for others’ books, mags and the like - all long read and wishing to inspire someone else in a “new” home - this “revolving library” is free
Traditionally, all readings are very diverse - in voice, texture and content - and from comments after, the evenings have been enjoyable, even inspirational
This poetry series’ ambition - held in an inviting, warm, accepting and acoustically sound “safe” space - is to offer a compassionate setting for poets to come and share their work - and for others to relax, support and absorb.
Those participating may be reading from their own work or other’s work, singing (with or even without an instrument), reading work done on a poet/poetic era or perhaps even original prose - and hey who knows. The only real restriction is time limit, determined by the number of people signing to read - but in the past each reader has had roughly 8 to 10 minutes, give or take.
This month’s reading, scheduled for Tuesday, November 2nd, will run from 7:00 to 10:00pm, with a short intermission part way through and with limited food and beverage provided. It is also a free event, but donations are greatly appreciated and will be given directly to the Artel for providing their space and their assistance.
This is an open event so feel free to invite or bring friends as well, and although the start time is 7pm, this is not a closed door event and anyone is welcome to come in at any time during the reading, either to read or to listen. We will attempt to accomodate poets arriving late and wishing to read.
SIDE NOTE:
It would be great if this reading series becomes a resource in promoting other artistic endeavors. If you have or know of a project, exhibit, space or anything else related to the artistic community - it would be wonderful if you could come promote it. But if you’re not able to attend - contact Bruce either on fb or by way of email and he will promote it on your behalf at the reading Bruce’s email address is: bruce.kauffman@hotmail.com
This is going to be another really wonderful evening Already looking forward to it:)
Hope to see you there!

All ages. $5.
8pm-11pm.

“Gardens of Heat is Anne Gauthier on drums, Sheena Hoszko on bass, Pamela Dwyer on guitar, and Cherie Pyne on guitar. Their sound is a heavy heart, with driving rhythms and powerful, vulnerable vocals. They are bursting at the seams with new songs, getting ready to record in a big old house in the country this fall, and preparing for a digital release on Villa Villanova (Clues, Think About Life, Pony Up!) and an independent 7 inch release in the spring of 2011.
The band formed when Anne, Sheena, Pamela and Cherie first met, volunteering at Montreal Rock Camp for Girls 2009. For the last year they have been writing songs and jamming with the lights off into the wee hours. This fall they are playing more local shows and heading out on some mini tours in Ontario and Quebec.”

This year the AKA is putting their lovely social centre through extraordinary renovations, brought on by the fire department. They are also putting on an accessibility ramp and an accessible washroom, and coming into a new phase of being with more books and many more open hours. Come out on the 17th at the Artel and help fundraise for these renovations and future projects. Ryan Harvey from the Riot Folk Collective (http://www.riotfolk.org/) will be there and so should you!
