!!!You will even be able to collage a personal pizza (whoa) (!)
…
Musical Guests include: Coco et Co. and Pat LePoidevin
Coco et Co. is Andrew Sisk’s new band. Andrew has performed with the Sleepless Nights and fronted the indie chamber folk project Share. Coco et Co, a collaboration with Miranda Durka, is both throwback and forward thinking. A clean collection of Gaullic-tinged electro-autumnal bedroom pop.
Pat LePoidevin, is a young musician who has been mesmerizing audiences across the country with his delicate multi-instrument looped arrangements. His songs evoke childhood and the natural order. Pat’s voice will make you weak at the knees and leave a lovely ringing in your ears.
**This event is doubling as the after-party to the art reception for Nodes and Drawing Impressions happening at the Union Gallery (6-8pm)

Intro to Sex Worker Activism
The world’s oldest profession is also one of the most stigmatized and misunderstood. Sex workers the world over have launched creative, colourful, and controversial campaigns in their fight for the right to work how and with whom they choose. Join SWAG (Kingston’s Sex Worker Action Group) for a discussion on sex worker activists – who they are, why they are fighting, and what impact their activism has on their lives and working conditions.
The talk will be followed by a screening of Made in Secret: the Story of the East Van Porn Collective at 7pm.
************************************************
Film Screening 7pm - MADE IN SECRET: The Story of the East Van Porn collective
“Forget for a second that the word “porn” is in the title – it’s the concept of “collective” that makes this doc extraordinary. Ostensibly a fly-on-the-wall look at the cuddly Vancouver creatives who work together to make “sexy movies” – i.e. DIY porn – Made in Secret is more compelling for its depiction of working by consensus instead of by majority rule. It’s fun watching the group members plan and film their latest opus (a “pan-sexual romp” dubbed BikeSexual), and everyone involved belies their cutesy nom de porn (Muffy, Mr. Pants) by being hyperarticulate. One member explains that the goal is to make “positive propaganda against the negative propaganda in the hegemony of porn.” But when another member creates a stir by suggesting BikeSexual be shown at an alterna-porn festival – which would mark the first time one of their films would be shown to a non-EVPC audience – the ardently fair approach the members take when dealing with conflict illustrates that a little bit of utopia does actually exist in the world.” San Francisco Bay Guardian

Yep, the time has arrived. After a series of successful figure drawing classes, we are going to host a session for beginners. No experience necessary, but curiousity and a bit of patience will go a long way. The class is 3 hours long. We will have two models. We’ll do fast dynamic sketeches and more detailed drawings. Instruction and assistance as well as basic supplies will be provided.
If you are not a beginner please come as well.

Lisa Bozikovic (www.myspace.com/lisabozikovic)
Lisa’s first show in Kingston! Her Sandro Perry-produced debut, Lost August, snuck in at the last minute to become one of my faves of 2009. I was faaaaaar from alone:
“A pair of short, stunning pieces open and close this debut album: The Letting Go is an organ-drenched hymn and anxiety remedy, and the rich piano notes and lush backing vocals of Grateful accompan…y a singer who is “grateful to hear your song in my head, grateful to lie all day in this bed.” Right back at you, Lisa Bozikovic, right back at you.”
-The Globe and Mail
Megan Hamilton (www.myspace.com/meganhamilton)
“Megan Hamilton forces a high-pressure jet of intense folk rock through a potent blend of human emotion on her second full-length album. More stylistically consistent than her beautifully quirky 2006 debut, Feudal Ladies Club, Hamilton’s sophomore release is a sonic brew powerful enough to make the head swim.”
-Exclaim! Magazine, Rachel Sanders
Abigail Lapell (www.myspace.com/abigaillapell)
An ultra-swell singer/songwriter who has shared the stage with Ohbijou, Jim Guthrie, The Lowest of the Low, Rae Spoon and many more, Abigail takes a break from work on her upcoming record to hit the Limestone district!
“There’s beauty indeed in the smoke that flows from her lungs, the way her words disperse storms, set the sky to gently falling.”
-Said the Grammophone, Sean Michaels
