Art’s Birthday

January 13th, 2012
January 17, 2012    8:00 pmto11:00 pm

Art’s Birthday is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French Fluxus artist Robert Filiou, who suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, on the 17th of January, Art was born when someone dropped a sponge into a bucket of water. Filiou proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. This idea has been taken up by a loose network of radio and sound artists around the world. Kingston joins the movement through CFRC 101.9fm’s Art’s Birthday celebration: a day-long exploration of art on-air from 4pm-midnight, including a live broadcast from the Artel, 205 Sydenham Street, between 7-11pm, featuring performances by Decomposing Pianos, Happiness Is.., Neven Lochhead/Liam Cole and many more.

The event at the Artel is free and all are welcome. Help us wish Art a happy 1,000,049th Birthday!
