The Artel will be presenting new works by Kingston artist Maggie Hogan that will focus on ideas and objects associated with play (for all ages). By using a variety of materials, Hogan attempts to look at play concepts and materials through a new lens.
Hogan’s three dimensional work attempts to place used and discarded materials and forms in a new context in an effort to focus on their underappreciated qualities and create new life for them. By rethinking and updating ordinarily play things, Hogan attempts draw our attention to the small and often overlooked material of our everyday lives. By actually incorporating these familiar non-art materials into her presentation, she hopes to evoke a multitude of associations for the viewer.
